On Saturday September 13th my wonderful grandpa got reunited with my grandma Layton in heaven. He will be so missed by everyone who was lucky to know him. A lot of times I would go to see him just for the heck of it, and he would always say " Amanda, come with me to my garden and I will get you some veges to take with you!" and no matter what I would always get sent home with bags full of veges to last me a lifetime. He was mighty proud of his garden he spent night and day out there.
I remember all those times that us grand kids would want Krispy Kreme Doughnuts and even though he thought it was a waste of money he would do it any way just to see a smile on our face.
I always enjoyed the family picnics...they would always come up at the last minute they would always plan to barbecue the day of . Every single picnic would be held in the back yard at grandpa's house, and they always and I do mean always end up in a balloon fight. This one time we were having a balloon fight grandpa was sitting talking to delray and I came up and throw a balloon at grandpa and it didn't pop and the impact of the balloon knocked grandpa over in his chair...he got up and laughed it off but then chased me and got me good. Those times I will always Cherish.
The last time I saw grandpa before he started going downhill from the cancer was in June of this year and I will always treasure that visit I was lucky that I got to say my goodbyes in a good way while he was still doing good.
He was the glue that kept the family together....and I know that this Thanksgiving and Christmas wont be the same without him. He was a great cook to he would always cook pies for Thanksgiving and popcorn balls for Halloween and who could forget the pumpkins he grew in his garden for all of us grandkids to carve scary things into for Halloween.
He was always good to me he helped me out when I was getting my first loan he cosigned for me to get it....and sadly i could not pay him back all the money I owed him and even when I tried he said " No, Amanda just you keep your money in your pocket I don't need it!"
The funny thing is he would always call me Amanda he never called me Mandy like everyone else. And if ever I told him what I got for birthdays, Christmas he would always say "Why you spoiled brat!"
All of these memories and more will be kept in my heart always....I love you grandpa...please kiss grandma for me and please watch over me keep giving me advice. Watch over slaterbug for me.
love you always
Amanda
